MD-11F is a great flying machine..but..company maintenance practices, and extreamly poor scheduling ( which blatently fly into the face of the FAR's) put you in situations where you are holding the line in telling the company " No, This Aircraft is NOT going anywhere"...and you do this over and over again....ACMI flying allows little margin for error....
IE: If the WX Radar is MEL'd...If it's not VFR and clear forever along our ENTIRE flight path.....We are NOT going.....Especially over the oceanic tracks.
After a while, you just refuse trips and just walk out the door before you allow your livelyhood/Tickets to be jepordized for good...
I don't think where you're working at would prevent the call. During the interview I probably wouldn't mention FedEx though. I was totally honest during my interview, but in hindsight it was probably stupid. They asked where I had apps in and who was my first choice. I told them my dream job was Alaska Airlines, go figure they still hired me.
