ALPA, as in you and I.
This will work out well for some... probably not so well for others, but it's no more an *** to LUAL than LCAL. My BES is 60% of what it was in 2008 and is probably getting smaller.
Really? (And I don't mean that snotty... I'm seriously asking really?) You don't think there are enough CAL pilots in DEN, ORD, and SFO to staff a 737 domicile? I've read a bunch of folks that are quite excited about it. Isn't LAX one of the most senior bases out there now? I was under the impression that there would be NO problem staffing those new bases.
My complaint is that there are now 3 new opportunities for CAL guys to bid and take flying away from UAL pilots. There is 1 for UAL. Basically, as a SFO pilot, I'm sick of losing flying, and clearly more flying in SFO will be going to the 737... which I can't bid. This will most likely put me back down onto reserve, which is ANOTHER pay cut. Not blaming the CAL guys.... it is what it is. We just need to get this stupid contract DONE and finish the SLI.
My problem with ALPA is that in many ways, it's NOT you and I. I'm concerned that ALPA is becoming a Regional dominated union when their interests are so diametrically opposed to mine. I'm concerned that ALPA supported an increase in the retirement age (against the will of the membership... and I don't care how they choose to spin it) at the exact WRONG time. I'm concerned that there are staffers at ALPA who make almost as much as I do as a Captain at the world's biggest airline. But this is an issue for a much different post.
If your QOL in base goes down, then I truly feel for you. No sarcasm. This really stinks, as base seniority is pretty much KEY to life.
