I don't know what level of reading comprehension skills you have, but when I read the first part of Jesse's post:
No reason to get snotty.
The thing I get from Jesse's post is that Jesse has little confidence in the ability of the current bargaining agent to deliver the best that can be done.
That is exactly what I read, and asked about. But I also asked what it is about DPA that he thinks will make them able to deliver something that DALP would not be able to do. I'll take a couple of examples to convince me. Would they somehow be able to short circuit the NMB and get them to allow us to strike? Would they be able to get the company to say "OK.. just kidding, you got us (with embarrassed looks on their faces).. you can have a 50% pay increase" just by beating their chests and threatening a strike? (See first question). I just wonder what (and why) it is that DPA supporters think they can deliver over what DALPA can deliver. The nefarious bull**** about wanting to go to national and all that crap aside, the majority of reps will live under any contract they deliver. It doesn't make sense to torpedo the pilot group (which seems to be the DPA's mantra) for the "benefit" of a couple of dudes...
What makes you think that Jesse's lack of confidence in the current bargaining agent's ability to deliver the best possible outcome is in any way less valid a point than your similar sentiments towards the current administrations ability for the country?
I don't. Never said his concerns about DALPA were less valid than mine are re: oboma.
That seems like a logical short circuit to me...Unless your definition of best possible outcome differs greatly from that of Jesse's.It
That might very well be the crux of the disagreement. I see that napkin math that says just by raising fares a couple of bucks we can all get paid $1M/year yada yada yada... and I see pure naivete'. This is a business with razor thin margins. Sad, but true. Everybody is operating under that sword of Damocles. The bright (but predictable) spot in the silver lining is that "the Darling" fired the first shot in fare increases last week. When THE low fare airline has to raise fares, that is a pretty good signal of where the industry is right now. Back on point. The best possible outcome is what both parties would be striving for. I just do not believe that DPA has any business in the equation - at this point in time -. If you and Jesse are not happy with the result they bring to us, by all means vote no, but I implore you to do so based on facts, and not emotion. Yes, we gave a lot in BK.. the bills need to be paid. A naive group of amateurs is not the way to achieve that payment... IMHO. Fire away.
Cheers
