Omnivorous

I am 22 years old; I was a sophomore in high school when GoJet was sloughed off from the TSA's hide in 2005. Now (as some of you might recall from a recent thread of mine), I'm a 720tt CFI CFII MEI trying to get a 121 job.

I've always disliked GoJet because of all the talk I hear from my 121 friends and the words I've read on various forums. Mostly here. As the mins are raised (XJT HR just told me competitive TT is 1200 despite the published 700) and my job search continues, it occurs to me that I do not hate GoJet. I have no reason to hate GoJet. To me and probably others in my position, GoJet, for all intents and purposes, is a stand alone carrier with couple dozen jets and more on the way. Believe me, I know the history as I've read it all on here and elsewhere. However, to someone my age who did not feel or understand or even know about the turmoil generated in 2005, GoJet can look like a viable employer. I am separate from the ****storm in every way except for pilot and 121-hopeful association.

To many, this may seem crazy. A good friend of mine warned me to "put on some weight" if "I become a scab too" because the captains at his airline take that **** to heart, implying that the inevitable jumpseating on his airline would be met with a frown by the flightcrew. ...the conversation concluded with my mid-late 20's friend admitting that he only disliked GoJet "because everyone else does."

My conclusion is this: to some, myself included, the infamous GoJet has no emotional connection to its history. It is only through [some of] the general public's perception of the company that people like me learn to hate. Again, I've read all the history and even read the pilot contract, but to a younger pilot the company can seem like a self-contained, potential employer who can pull one out of the CFI realm and into that of Pt. 121.
