That's because of creative accounting. They only look at the 40,000 employees actually employed by Apple and not the 150,000 Chinese working for various corps making the products. Bringing it home, UAL now has official about 10,000 pilots, but what about all those contract jets, how many pilots do they employ? 10,000, 20,000 additional?
Exactly, and while a vast majority of Apple's (and UAL's) employees may be off the books (outsourced) for the sake of having access the parent company's pay and benefits, the execs at these companies pay themselves based on the labor of all these workers, including the outsourced ones. Ingenious.
