Actual pay costs will go down as you bring pilots in at the bottom of scale. That is however a somewhat temporary gain.
No, that's already part of the contract. How much vacation and sick time depends on years of service. There is a 12 year longevity pay scale, and 401k contributions are directly linked. So as pilots retire off the top, and are replaced by new hires, costs will drop considerably. There is a 12 month freeze on new hire training as well. SWA benefitted from this dynamic for years.
