Tsquare, I am not throwing rocks at senior pilots. You seem to have an attitude that there is nothing better than Delta when people mentioned foreign contracts... it maybe for you. I just mentioned that your situation is very different than mine. As a widebody captain, you will have a better career by staying at Delta. As a junior FO, I will be better off somewhere else if the next contract does not show significant gains. My only 'ultimatum' as you put it, is a personal decision. While many mouth off and live under an inferior contract, I will just walk away.
I have nothing against going to fly a contract gig. I am just amazed why anyone would want to go live in the planet's anus, but like you said, to each his own. I have even thought about going to Asia at some point for a contract towards the end of my career. I lived in the PI for 3 years a lifetime ago, and Korea or China might be fun..
Entitlement issues? Just because I want a decent contract? So what do you want me to do to 'redeem' myself of the entitlement attitude? Accept a 'B' scale? I worked very hard to make it to Delta. My path to the airline cockpit included starvation, rooflessness and a bunch of other sacrifices. I still work very hard. I have made a very decent living outside of my Delta paycheck and employed a number of people... not because I'm sitting on my butt with entitlement issues but beacuse I work hard and I am ambitious.
Good for you, I am glad that you are doing what many of us did when we were at the same point in our careers as you are now. Been there done that.. have the T shirt. I remember a retired pilot coming in to my new hire class and telling us that he was envious of the most junior pilot in the room because he had his whole career ahead of him. When I see posts like yours, I know exactly what he meant. in a few years, you will too...
And no... I am not a new-hire. But not too far from the bottom. When I said I will be very close to the bottom on furlough... it is relative. It depends on how many they put on the street (if they do it). But I will take a voluntary furlough if that happens and will be out with the first wave.
Again, I wish you all the best.
At the end of the day tsquare... I am your best friend. Voting with your feet is the best way to restore a decent contract for the remaining folks. By me and some others leaving Delta, you will indirectly benefit.
Don't inflate the importance of your leaving.. just sayin'... There are thousands of guys that would kill to have your seniority number. We are all just a number, and we are all replaceable.
I just took exception to you referring to C2K as OUR payrates when it seems that you weren't even here for that. You have never enjoyed those fruits, yet you act as if they are your birthright, and that is where I found the entitlement mentality. No, I am not advocating any kind of B scale for you or any junior pilot. Just stop talking like the company owes YOU something or you will leave. I promise you that they couldn't care less.
