When I started my "career" (if you want to actually call it that) a pilot generally had to flight instruct for a few years, then move up to a freight job (flying crappy equipment) until you had about 2500 hours. Then maybe just MAYBE you had an opportunity to interview for a airline flying small turbo props. Hell, I was required to have 2500 hours (and 500 multi) to get my Caravan job. The entitlement mentality these days makes me shake my head.
