I love how they rationalize this stuff:

Q: Why is the Company still making sizable donations to various charities?
American feels a strong commitment to support the communities it serves ? and where its employees live and work ? and the company has stood by that commitment despite difficult economic times. While it is the exception, in some instances we have made a cash donation to support an event or program. In those instances, we ensure that our cash contributions are offset by enhanced revenue opportunities in areas such as group and meeting travel as well as our Business ExtrAA rewards program.

Added 3/2/2012 Q: What happens to the assets such as the LHR property? The LHR property is one that American purchased in the 1990's when property values were lower. However, as we work through our Chapter 11 reorganization, we are focused on achieving a competitive cost and debt structure and will, of course, review our use and ownership of this and all our real estate as part of that process. The property is used by the officer who is responsible for American Airlines international business, and for corporate functions from time-to-time. American Airlines complies with all tax laws in the jurisdictions where it operates.
