I think what I was trying to relate here is that the FFDO program, although conceived with good intentions, attracted many tools that let their little pistols go to their head. I would say you played that well. The only one among us who has not said something stupid is the one who has never spoken. The alpha male display is fairly common with a few check pilots, just a normal part of life.
Perhaps a little different take away is possible- over the entirety of human experience, egos have proven to be far more dangerous than weapons.
