At sUA, many of us are thinking the same thing. I won't be picking one up until they make it mandatory. Frankly, it is an almost useless device as currently configured. At some point, it might be useful if they get their crap into a big pile instead of this shotgun approach to its development. I hope they have a lot of ipad SME's on hand for the days leading up to the mandatory carry date. There are many pilots who don't want the financial responsibility for a useless brick, let alone the privacy issues.
On the other hand, a pilot the other day was giddy at the prospect of getting his new ipad. I explained my position and it was like talking to a 6 year old at 5am on Dec 25th.
