CAL used to have a base in Den and most of those senior guys that bid it still live there.
No more burden than a Miami guy that is having to commute to IAD for the rest of his career cause the MIA base is gone, or a PDX guy, or an Anchorage guy. You either move or you commute, or you bid into the equipment you can hold at your domicile (oh, sorry, pilot base). About 50% of the pilots in sfo commute in. Welcome to the profession.
