Default Simple Math

Alaska Airlines has around 1500 pilots. Assuming each pilot has a average of a 30 year career that means that they need to hire an average of 50 pilots a year to cover retirements. (assuming they don't grow or shrink)

Now that pilot group has 1500 pilots hammering the chief pilots office everyday with requests to hire their sons and daughters. They also have hundreds of guys petitioning to get their military buddies in the next class. Horizon Air is gifted a few seats on occasion. Add to that HR has their own pet projects of people they want to hire for various reasons. In the end there are few slots left for the no-name random resume to come through the door.

It has happened but it simply is not enough just to have just a full resume.
