Agreed. Being in a Tanker unit, I know many AGR pilots in ANG units who wouldn't touch the airlines w/a 10-foot pole right now. And why should they? They have federal holidays off, 3 weekends/month off, pilot bonus (Active Guard Reserve [AGR] Guys/Gals), free insurance, 20-year retirements, job security for the most part, and home most every night as well.
Technician pilots, on the other hand, their program is a little different. And for a traditional guardsman, that statement could be correct if they're looking to fly more...or they could guard bum 'til something full-time comes along. If you think it's hard getting on at the majors, try getting in an AGR program in the ANG units! It's done of course, but politics plays a huge hand - like everywhere else it seems.
