Here are some interesting numbers for you Piedmonsters:

By August of 2013 all F/O's will be required to have an ATP and unrestricted type rating in their aircraft. Hence the memo from both the Association and PJ that mentions beginning in as early as June ATP/Type rides will be given for F/O's...But wait..the devil is always in the details - According to a reliable source in the training dept that process will be as such:

You will do you regular CQ then an addition day of a 4 hour sim for training, then on day 4 you will do your 4 hour type ride. Without getting into the completely unfair nature of that as it has been proposed let's now look at those numbers -

There are 8,760 hours in 1 year. There are around (according to a loose estimate by the training department) nearly 200 pilots at PDT that need the type ride. Now, a regular CQ is 4 hours for MV, and 3 scheduled for LOFT for a total of 7 hours. Every pilot (currently showing 411), obviously over the next year will require 7 hours each for CQ..That is 2,877 hours. 200 or so F/O's will need an additional 8 hours for training and type ride..that is another 1,600 hours of sim time. We are now at 4,477 hours. Let's just estimate 20 more new hires and 20 more upgrades at 40 hours each paired up..that's another 800 hours bringing us up to 5,277 hours. According to the latest from training the sim will not be replaced but completely overhauled instead and it will be down for 45 days in the fall. That is a loss of 1,080 hours. Bringing the total available sim time over the year in question down to 7,680 hours. With the overhaul the sim will have to run 16 hours per day to get all this done and that is with only 20 newhire/upgrade sessions (probably a conservative number), no re-quals and no-retrains factored in.

The training department has only 5 people that can give type rides...

It's gonna be an interesting year.
