There are no real "gotcha's" other than that it's an extremely expensive area and the traffic is horrific and the people are uppity! Another huge negative is the presence of the United States Congress and the President and all the convective turbulence that rises from their buildings.

But if you already live in the area and can afford it it's not bad. The AWAC DCA base is pretty senior but most folks who want it can hold it pretty quickly I think. IAD has traditionally gone junior for most RJ carriers which have a crew domicile there.

I don't think any regionals have a domicile at BWI.

One thing to keep in mind is the traffic as it can slow to a crawl at times and being 20 miles from the airport could theoretically be a long time from the airport. But like I said, if you know the area then you already know that.
