Have you read the interview in the latest "inside Air Ops" about the internal that worked all over the company to finally become a line pilot this last year. Share the magazine with any internal that meets the mins and isn't being allowed to interview. Those are the principles and ideals that FS founded and ran this company under. That is the reason you give internals a shot over someone off the street. If the employee does a bad job at throwing packages, or doing whatever than they won't get the rec from the supervisor to get the job. This should absolutely be GFT'd and with the full support of the supervisor and HR department at fedex.
This is what I am saying too. But like I said earlier the GFT can be a double edged sword. In my short time here (6 yrs) the few people I know who filed a GFT have lost and they had pretty strong cases in my opinion. Now will that be held against them in the future if they want to apply?..Who knows but its possible. My point is and I have seen this in other non pilot job openings. The company will post requirements with something "preferred" and I know for a fact that no one will be entertained for an interview unless that "preferred" item is met. So I ask why does it not state "required". Because legal dept says it has to be posted that way...Go figure! Also they make it very difficult to apply internal as well. Make you jump through a whole lot of hoops and if any one thing in that job package you submit has an I that isn't dotted or a T that isn't crossed it is tossed out. I say if you post a job that says 1000 TPIC minimum but you will never interview anyone with that because competitive mins are 3000 TPIC or whatever than don't make an internal guy go through all time and trouble because you are doing him/her a disservice and not a fair thing to do to what is supposed to be your valued employees.
