The GTF technology is being scaled up, not down. There is talk of using it on a re-engined 757.
Just learned from Wiki that the CF-34-10 has a core from a CFM-56 (737 engine). Who knew the largest RJ's now have the same engine as the Airbus and Boeing products. There sure are a lot of 20K engines out there.
You are correct.
The engine on the E-190, though marketed as a CF34, is (with some various changes) the newest CFM56 from the 737NGs with a 4 inch smaller fan. It has very little in common with the CF34s found on CRJs / 170s.
Marketing wise, the 190 is an "RJ." In every other measure, it is a fully capable mainline aircraft.
