Maybe it's a base cultural thing, mb times are changing, or mb it's because there are a lot more older dudes, e.g. moi, hanging out in right seats. I'm referring to walk arounds more than anything. The occasional dinner or beer is nice when it happens. Truth be told, I've bought the CA dinner more times then not... but don't let that get out.

I agree with you wrt the base culture concept. I was based in ATL for a number of years as a FO. CAs never did walk arounds, and it was very, very unusual for one to buy beer, much less dinner. That's not to say it never happened but it was very rare, unfortunately even on probation.
Both SLC and LAX were former Western Air Lines bases, and I'm very lucky to have flown with a bunch of former WAL CAs. Almost 100% were a total class act. Great aviators, great CAs, wonderful to fly with, what I'd call "world class guys".
Fortunately the example they set has carried over to the next generation of CAs.
