Meh - it's a little over-the-top for me. Nice touch I suppose if you can pull it off and feel comfortable doing it. I'm not exactly a dynamic public speaker, so it would look forced and uncomfortable for all parties involved (especially me).
As far as bible thumping, I've never had the pleasure, but there's a time and a place for everything. Flying isn't either of those categories, imho.
