My theory is that people who become pilots have a bit if Peter Pan Syndrome. They don't want to grow up and choose what to them seems like a job that avoids most of the expectations and requirements of being an adult. In time most pilots realise that they have the capacity to grow up after all but are stuck in a job that keeps them in a nomadic college room mate type lifestyle and find it difficult to get out.

Hmm... Perhaps... My theory is that if I (personally) were meant to be something else, then I would be there already. This IS what I want to do professionally. This IS what I find satisfying, rewarding and fun! I'm not saying every aspect is great, and to do so would be a lie. I already know what your opinion on the airline profession is, and I respect it... However, I have chosen which path I will walk, now it is time to see where it leads... I'm not sure what you are implying, but I can assure you that I am no Peter Pan, nor do I try to avoid adulthood... I'm just another guy who's trying to make it...
