That would make RA's push for LGA swap pure genius.. I would not want to play poker or chess against RA.
Additionally, Star Alliance would suffer a US domestic hit if the "new AMR" stayed in Oneworld.
My guessing is that US would have to give up less now than they would've had to pre-slot swap. RA wasn't a "pure genius"... it was a good move for both parties involved.
The DOT, on the otherhand, will just screw the airlines merging. Doesn't matter who the involved parties are.
