Why use the phrase "minority hiring record?" I thought we were all judged equally? Looks like you don't think so, and I agree with you.
I agree with your agreement.
Looks like you think the airlines should hire a quota of minority pilots, who would ever think that was a fair way to hire pilots?
Don't agree. The last thing a qualified minority pilot wants is another minority who isn't qualified. It feeds contempt.
When I was at ASA all the minority pilots got preferential treatment at United and kids of active United pilots got "minority hiring status" I don't remember ONE European American male without military service getting an interview ZERO.
U R wrong to believe being a minority is somehow easy.
Then I get my interview at FedEx, the day I interviewed there were 11 of us. 9 had the required PIC time two did not. Guess what they were both minority pilots with Zero PIC time.
BY DESIGN! The minority guys with the qualifications (PIC Turbine), and there is no shortage, were not invited to join FEDEX.....R U starting to get it?
I'll bet in the past 15 years there hasn't been one white male interview at FedEx without the PIC time required.
FedEx goes to all the Air Inc job fairs and others. Ever wonder why since you have to have an internal reference? Who could they be looking for?
Not sure why everyone is so touchy about this.
You couldn't be.
If your background, gender, or race helps you get the job great for you.
It's not great, because I have to listen to this rationalization. I've always had the qualifications and have always fell into the top 10% of my peers. AND I'd like to believe my qualifications got me my job. If not, then the system is indeed flawed. Why is this your assumption?
No heart burn here, but don't kid yourself and think everyone is judged on a level playing field. The best pilots are not the ones who get hired, the lucky ones do. I'd take luck any day over skill and if a skirt, or skin color helps your luck play it for all you can.
You've never had to explain..."why you fly so well" or "where did you get your experience" as if it were an anomaly. And STILL assume that I got something preferential or help.
The pay is all the same.
Money isn't everything, hence my failure to apply to airlines with certain corporate culture.
Captain Mark is a minority himself ... he is a Yankee who likes the Dallas Cowboys
