I recall reading a magazine article about this written in 1977!.. So I tentatively call BS. Some senior NTSB spokesperson wrote that the emerging automation technologies like decent control and auto-land would render pilots superfluous[ref to L-1011]. it also speculated about the collapse of ATC and airports as we know them. He described in the late 1970s GPS vectored aircraft being serviced in a bus terminal situation where aircraft would de-pax under big shelters being serviced by their inbuilt TriStar styled 'air-stair' and semi-autonomous baggage handlers... So I guess time will tell. I think that when light cargo goes fully autonomous you guys should probably worry. And if autonomic systems are so great why do 'drones' need pilots? There will always be a need for humans that want to strap themselves to big machines imho :-)
.... Although just think of the weight / space gains by not having all those pesky instruments, controls and seats. I bet you could fit a tiny McDonnalds in there.... I wonder if Mr Voss is a McDonalds shareholder...
