I can only speculate, but putting this rumor together with consistent comments from management about aggressively parking 50 seaters, I think obtaining B717's would indeed require hiring. We won't be able to staff those jets with the pilots we have now. There are only 17 DC9's left, and we still have the 737-900ERs coming starting in 2013. They are supposedly replacement jets, but if the economy is right they could be growth jets.
