The van driver will often have multiple pickups. The frugality of these pilots will then teach the driver to pick up the other hotel guests first/play dumb when asked about where to go to eat/etc.
See what they're looking at when you tip them. They're looking at your hat. More specifically, your hat badge.
They know which crews to always be early for, and which crews they can take their time on.
