Their domestic structure fit together pretty well (minus CVG and MEM), but more importantly was their international structure. NWA had a huge Asia network and DAL was big in Europe.

Im not defending anything T-hawk says, but I really wonder how US will add any real value to AA. I completely understand why APA supports the merger (the term sheet offer is great compared to 1113) but I also wonder how Parker plans to fund the pay increases for AA/US. I believe he is over-valuing the synergies of the merger because he is going by past combinations like NWA/DAL and CAL/UAL who had the international stuff to support financial gains.

I wouldnt be surprised to see a combined US/AA back in BK after 5 years or so, but it might be worth the gamble for the majority of the pilots who only have a few years left anyways.
