Per the NPRM, when the new regs kick in, in order to take the knowledge test for the ATP MEL (they don't explain how the testing centers will know you're going for the MEL and not the SEL) you'll have to show a graduation certificate from an ATP training program that is 24 classroom hours (airline ops, high altitude weather, etc) and 16 sim hours. While airline Indoc would cover this and you'd get the 16 hours in initial training, it'll be interesting to see if the airlines will provide this, send pilots out for the written and then finish up the flight training.
All I am hoping is that all of this ATP and type rating stuff will be handled
after beginning with an actual airline, instead of having to do it on my own dime before beginning with an airline.
