Wow, you said what I have been trying to say but much more effectively. Please keep shouting this from the rooftops. We are about to get skunked on work rules, advancement and QOL if people don't wake up and realize the points you just made here. It is very easy to fall for this. Initially I also started to extrapolate my last few years forward under this NN, but the more I thought about it, spurred on from some good insight on this thread, my thoughts on this have topic have "evolved."
