2.53. Probationary Period – A Pilot’s first twelve (12) months of active service (exclusive of furlough or leave of absence) with the Company from the pilot’s date of hire. If a Pilot upgrades to Captain during the probationary period, his probation will end upon completion of the upgrade checkride.

18.F.3. A pilot shall be on probation for the first twelve (12) months of active service with the Company. Nothing in this agreement shall
be construed to extend the right to arbitrate a grievance concerning
his discipline or discharge to a probationary pilot, or to require that
such discipline or discharge be based on just cause. However, a
probationary pilot shall have the right to submit grievances.
