More rounded person? I never really understood that. Maybe more brainwashed. Btw, I DO have a four year degree, but consider it a useless piece of paper, esp in this field.
Commitment? Doesn't getting all your ratings, certificates and hours show commitment? Heck, doesn't filling out the delta app show commitment.
IMHO, next to bottled water, college is one of the great scams of our time.
I'm not sure how much time you've spent with "uneducated" (no-college) people. It is definitely possible that they can end up fine with a good understanding of how the world works and how to get stuff done. For those that have succeeded in their carreer, I'd say this is a given. The thing is, at least with my experience, many uneducated people do not have a grasp on how the world works. They have many completely wrong understandings of concepts and how to accomplish goals. This isn't meant to be a plug for college and make it sound like some kind of magical-personal development tool, but having spent lots of time with both (in the Army, professional realms, etc), there is a significant difference usually. I can definitely understand any business that "doesn't want to deal" with someone that doesn't have basic college education. Again, it's not a magic-end-all/be-all, but many uneducated people lack basic problem solving and conceptual skills.
Maybe getting "all your ratings" does much the same thing, but in that case I'd assume there's the possibility for too much variability.
