Why do you think La Cosa Nostra is so heavily involved in that particular industry? When garbage piles up in the streets of NY, people notice within a couple of days.
But fine.. let's talk about it. I got nothing better to do this morning.
La cosa nostra is involved for many reasons...a few come to mind. Asbestos and other hazardous waste disposal, control of an essential service, ability to price control.
They aren't just involved in NYC, they are nationwide with waste management.
Then they get to own all the golf courses built on their dumps.
