(1) How do you force pilot out early? The last above 60 pilot I flew with, having 4.3 million in the bank and two retirement checks on hold "isn't ready." I think he likes flying. It is what he is good at (and he is a very good Captain).

Well you can't 'force them', but you can make it 'worse if they stay', as just happened in LOA's 46/51. OR...you could 'entice them' by reducing their medical premiums or something along those lines.
Seems Delta is still in the 'shrink your way to profitability' mode, with an additional pull down in both atlantic and pacific wide body flying, which begs the question;
What's the Big Opportunity that drove this -hurry up and wait-, T/A?
The only opportunity I see so far, is for the company to lock in pilots to another 3 years, at bankruptcy rates, slightly adjusted for inflation, with more outsourcing of narrow body flying.
