A very young and junior FO recently raised a good point. He said he's looking to bail to Delta when they start hiring. He said he's looking at a 19 year upgrade at SWA vs 12 at Delta. Plus Delta has widebody flying and (soon) a widebody payscale. The two biggest draws of SWA have always been the fast upgrade and great culture. Both are now gone (yes, the SWA culture is dead).
So, is SWA still a top choice for future applicants? Opinions?
My top 3 airlines when I was job shopping in 07-08 were DAL, UPS, & SWA (in that order). I would have been happy to be at any of them. I didn't ever make it to 1000 TPIC, so UPS and SWA were out of play and I ended up at DAL. This was my #1 choice. Going forward, I think SWA would be a good job and in the top 5 for most guys on the outside looking in at the majors. I'm happy at DAL and I think that, long term, I stand to have a better career here. Just my opinion.
