As far as using an "unofficial power play" for personal travel... If you truly believe this is happening, there are ways to to check and see if said inspector is authorized to be there.
True this. I got a Fed banned from ever riding the jumpseat again on our carrier for using his authority under false pretenses. He was going on a vacation, and flashed his creds to do it, and I was ****ed when he told me after we took off.
It was when he started talking smack about UA pilots in the Summer of 2000, specifically me, for not accepting a direct routing. That's when I decided that I was going to do everything I could to make him understand the error of his ways.
Tool of the day, even if it was 12 years ago.
