There are plenty of awesome civlian pilots, but the civilian screening system (your parent's credit rating) leaves something to be desired. It is almost impossible for a crappy pilot to get through military training..they may go down hill later in life, but at one point they had the skills...
Fow what it's worth I was medically DQed from military flying (before PRK
)...I saw the military system up close and then did the civilian route, so I can comment objectively.
