Definitely do not reduce power at the break, you are removing lift from the wings from the prop wash by doing that, which could worsen a sloppy, uncoordinated stall. I agree, read the section on this in
Airplane Flying Handbook, every student needs copy and should consult it often. Ask questions as you are doing.
