Of the six folks I interviewed with, three were invited into the pool. Surprisingly, of those three, I am the only one now flying for FedEx. I'm at the place I wanted to be (and the only one I applied to) whereas they had choices, went a different direction and seem genuinely happy. Good for them.
With that said, based on the current hiring process at FedEx, I will be darn sure the candidate I sponsor really, really wants to be here. Rec letters are one thing, as previously mentioned, but a sponsor can't afford to waste a silver bullet on somebody who turns down a class date here. The FedEx wannabes in my network understand this. I've been honest with them and told several the best I could do is a letter of recommendation based on our conversations about this job and others they might be pursuing.
