It’s all good my friend. We are truly all on the same side. As punishment for some of your comments, I am sentencing you to read my boring explanation. But as a reward, I have now reinstated you on my Xmas card list. LOL
It’s all pretty much a moot point, but as I said before, until this vote, I have voted No all but one time. In those past elections, I had the exact same thoughts as I presume you are having now. Why did the dumb arses vote for this POS? Are they complete blind idiots? Do they not have the nads to fight for our profession? What a bunch of spineless turds. Does that about cover it? LMAO I’ve been their countless times. I totally get it. Ironically, I’m in agreement with you more than you know. Sometimes it took me months to get over being a minority voter when I adamantly felt it should have gone down in flames. Perhaps this one should have as well. Only time will tell. Here is why I voted for it instead of joining the admirable fight.
I voted for this thing for a few reasons. One of which I haven’t shared before because very few line pilots can relate to it or even care about it. It is the improvements to our disability and sick leave policy. You see, I was out on a ridiculous medical issue for nearly five years. Two of my closet friends were out for extended periods as well. We are all back flying, but we learned a thing or two while we were out. Believe me it will change one’s perspective, and it can happen to any one of us at anytime. Trust me. I never thought I would be on the side lines. If you go out, the current pay scale means everything. Not how many RJ’s are allowed. That does not mean we were not evaluating the Scope issue. We were.
Secondly, I too am a realist. I am not a doomsdayer pessimist, and I’m not a “Preparer,” but I truly believe we are living in an unprecedented economic bubble which if not corrected soon, will take a serious toll on the US and World economy unlike anything you or I have ever seen. In the past, I was always the one lamenting that we always negotiate our contracts when the economic environment is suffering, but it always turns around so we cannot and should not let that influence our negotiations. I am sad to say I think this time is very, very different. Put another way, our economy and global events are unprecedented in history. It’s actually better if you don’t share this belief, because it is not a pleasant thought to live with. Unless something good happens soon, our status quo is about to change. My point is that I didn’t want to be in prolonged negotiations to possibly squeeze out some deserved gains, while at the same time risking any known improvements from this contract. To me, a short three year contract was the perfect proving grounds to test the future economic waters.
I’m not normally a “Let’s get em next time,” kind of guy, but just this once, just this time, I think it was appropriate.
I hope you construe this as an untraceable, deniable, back arseward apology. Luv ya man!
