But now, I believe that for our own well being and protections, we are leaving ourself out on a limb without one. I'm not saying we need this to try and screw JB, or show them who's in charge, etc. We need it to protect our careers and future against what ever comes down the line. If we want this next drive to be successful, then we must pick and choose carefully who the reps are. We don't need the radicals and extremists pushing this thing. That's one of the reasons I was so turned off by it last year and through conversations with my fellow pilots that was their concern also. I don't want to hear we need a union so we can screw JB and how it's time to get back at the company for past doings, etc. I want to hear how to protect and enhance our careers/benefits for the future. The union can only be as strong as the pilots it represents. We need to set the standard for our expectations, not the union. Their job is to represent us and enforce our CBA. We need to be educated about the facts of what we have/don't have as well as the risks of not having these protections.
Having a union on property is never (should never be) about 'screwing the company'........rather it's to protect the interests of the pilots. Plain and simple. It's about being your own advocate and having a voice in negotiations that directly affect your future.
Good luck with the upcoming organizing drive. Too bad it failed last time.....you could be working under your new CBA right now if it hadn't.
