You are confusing Whitlow with the contract. Your duty day contractually always starts at the report of your trip. Whitlow is a add on rule as a result of the American Accident in Little Rock. It requires that in any 24 hour period you can look back and find 8 hours of rest from any company requirements including answering the phone on reserve. That limits reserve to 16 hours max as a practical matter. Whitlow does not apply to international.
True. And from what I have seen, the computers do not have whitlow programming for reserves. You are on your own to keep yourself out of trouble. Same thing has happened to me more than once.
