Dude this isnt very complicated. You either listed for a jumpseat or you didnt. If you did, u must ask the captain. If you did not then its optional.. No need for a 10 page thread.

I too don't understand why this thread is more than 1 post long. If you filled out the little piece of paper that had the word jumpseat on it somewhere, you check in with the crew even if the gate agent gives you a boarding pass with a seat assignment on it.
If you didn't, you just board like every other passenger.
