I agree. The news story is what it is. News of Comair's demise has been greatly exaggerated in the past. Candidly, Delta should manage Comair better. Why deprive your own asset of growth? Why cut the schedules and cause further inefficiency? Why feed competitors at the expense of your own team?
If this isn't true then Delta should have immediately set the record straight. Is Delta in any sort of negotiations on the property? (honest question)
Why pay for such a senior pilot group? Delta's and Comair's most junior captain were hired the same year! If there is somebody cheaper, I'm sure Delta will find them.
