I'm about 99% sure the reason XJET was purchased and merged with ASA was to see those efficiencies.
You have to consider how the industry is reshaping itself right before our eyes. A handful of companies have remade themselves for the next chapter of the Regional saga. Contractual gains and how they will impact the new economics will have to be negotiated for the benefit of both the pilot group and management. Some on here are arguing that today's rates be the starting point for negotiations, which is absurd. Quite a few people predicted what is happening today with regional consolidation, as the smaller companies simply couldn't realize the cost metrics they had won (underbid) their contracts with. The remaining companies will have the leverage to negotiate better contractual terms with their mainline partners.
