When I was flying C-141s at CHS in the late 1980's we had a crew (from our sister squadron I must admit) that shot an approach to the same civil airfield by accident, realized it on very short final, and went around to recover to McDill without incident. Only problem: they were in the McDill O Club bar having drinks when the news on the bars TV showed them approaching the civil field, almost landing, and going around to the REAL McDill.
AC called CHS HQ and they fessed up. A new crew flew down and recovered the jet and busted crew.

Actually buzz, what would the USAF do to the guys that just did this? theyre flying careers aren't over are they?
and does the USN still just force guys to fly rubber dog poop out of hong kong when they damage a $30 million dollar jet they don't own?
