It's been a few years since I've regularly used American to commute. When I used to use them they had different policies for different OAL jumpseaters. Some airlines have unlimited jumpseat with American which it sounds like the OP's airline has hence the D6U code the U standing for unlimited. Few airlines however have this agreement with American and are limited to the amount of jumpseats up front on that particular airframe, regardless of the number of open seats in the back that are open. Most cases 1 jumpseat hence only 1 OAL pilot allowed in the back.
Your correct in that the D6U is an unlimited category meaning there is no limit to the number allowed other than seats available. Delta does the same for all American pilots looking to ride. Most connection carriers follow suite with their mainline counterpart (I flew for ASA for 8 yrs before Delta). Oddly enough, when I got bumped in TCB, I had to haul butt to MHH 30miles away to catch the last flight off the Island. The FO on that flight just happened to be the JS rep for Eagle and was all over my issue. He confirmed that the "FLOW BACK" yes, "back", was correct and if there are empty seats, thats the number of JS allowed. He confirmed that the "Island" gals have attitude, no surprise there, and that he would call his MEC rep and also follow through on his next flight to the Islands in a week or so. My initial thread was more of a heads up to all possibly traveling to the Bahamas out of MIA on Eagle. When its one or two flights a day, it gets a bit dicey when you can be bumped by even a Flight Attendant.
