It doesn't really matter if you've never failed anything before, this is for real. You might be able to fly circles around anyone in a cessna, but the CRJ is a lot of airplane when you're new to it and some people just aren't sharp enough to handle the pace that things happen. I get plenty of new FOs that are still figuring out what is going on because it's all a new experience, but if you can't get past the sim there is a real issue there. Often that issue is one of attitude. In fact, I've seen our training department go above and beyond to help someone giving their all to get through. If it's not going to happen, though, those guys can spot it because they are extremely experienced and there's no sense continuing in futility. It's a $30 million airplane with $1 billion worth of liability, so a lack of basic skills and knowledge will drown you. A LOFT is as close to real life problems as the sim really gets, so not being able to cut the mustard there likely brought up some serious underlying issues. Having said all of that, it's not really fair for you to sit here and criticize a training department just because your buddy doesn't have what it takes to make it flying jets. I can say with the utmost confidence that whatever reason the training department had for cutting him off was come by honest and after many chances had been given.
