I just bought a Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Verizon. It runs pure Android (currently Ice Cream Sandwich but can easily be upgraded to Jelly Bean). It's absolutely amazing. The screen is high def and the 4G through Verizon is FAST! I've had speeds approaching 30 Mbps! I rooted my phone and have a custom Jelly Bean ROM on it right now. Google has some pretty cool features on their new O/S. Google Now and Google Voice Search are pretty darn nice. There are some funny videos online showing how Google Voice Search destroys Apple's Siri. Apple puts out a good phone but the current Android phones are smoking the iPhone. The greatest thing is that I upgraded my phone for $50. You can also go to the Google Play store and buy a completely unlocked GSM phone and activate with whichever provider you want. The Galaxy S3 is also a very nice phone and is getting great reviews, but you'll have some Samsung "bloatware" with it. I'm not very familiar with the EVO. Hope this helps!
By the way, Target Mobile has the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for $50. Might want to check that out. Costco usually runs some good phone deals, too.
