I took a voluntary furlough back in 08 (7/99 hire) and haven't heard a word from the UAL side. I did get a call from CAL back when they first started the hiring over there. Our furlough agreement with UAL is completely separate from the CAL job offer.
How can I be "recalled" to an airline that I never worked at? This is a cut and dry case. We have a Furlough LOA with UAL that gives us 10 year recall rights to UAL. A job offer at CAL doesn't constitute a recall to UAL.
CAL might hire in the near future but when the JCBA is signed (whenever that happens) expect to see a bunch of furloughed pilots accept a recall.
The UAL ca that just talked to a returning furloughed pilot on the A320 is just as dumb as the ca you just flew a 4 day trip with. Maybe he is senile and the conversation happened back in 2006!
