Don't make the error of blaming 9/11 for the ending stages of post deregulation contracts and outsourcing brought. The airlines were entering a pretty hard down cycle when 9/11 happened. The combination of 9/11, the down cycle, age 65 and outsourcing all combined to pile drive junior pilots in the last 12 years.

Of those effects, the most significant and longest lasting was outsourcing.

Glad we are starting to turn that around.
